Film Nightcrawler

The Kurt Wagner featured in the Marvel Movie Universe had a very similar childhood to that of his comic book counterpart.

Born in Germany, he was discovered, abandoned as an infant by circus owner, Margali. She took him in and raised Kurt as her own son alongside Amanda, Margali's true daughter. Margali gave Kurt the name of Nightcrawler, she says, because he slept very little as a child, and was always up all night.

Kurt fell in love with Amanda as they grew up, but kept his true feelings hidden from her, due in large part to his appearance, and the fear that she could never return his love. "Movie" Nightcrawler is also a very spiritual person, with a strong belief in God.

He was quite happy with his circus life, until, at a performance in Canada, Kurt's mutant abilities attracted the attention of one William J. Stryker, who kidnapped Kurt and held him prisoner by duping him into beliveing that they also were holding Amanda prinsoner, and would harm her if Kurt did anything against his captors.

Styker eventually used the mind control drug he developed from the DNA of his own son on Kurt, sending him first to kill (mainly as a test) a former jailer who had abused Kurt, and then onto his mission to kill the President of the United States, which is where X2 picks up the story.

Kurt was wounded in that attack, and failed in his mission to kill. He was then tracked by Xavier to a church in Boston, where Storm and Jean found him.

Kurt then got to help the X-Men defeat the very man who had captured and abused him, all of which can be seen in X2.
